A Series of Activities Concerning the Winter Solstice Held in Soochow University

The winter solstice is one of 24 solar terms in China, and also an important traditional festival in China. In Soochow University, the winter solstice festival is also the festival that students of Soochow University look forward to. This year’s series of activities concerning the winter solstice combine labor education with traditional culture to bring teachers and students together and make them happy.

 


On the midday of December 20th, the student canteens in three campuses were packed with people. Theme sculpture exhibition, intangible cultural heritage exhibition and various delicious food including western style baking attracted a large number of students. The graduate student union organized cultural experience activities in Dushuhu Campus. School of Chinese Language and Literature and School of Electronics and Information Engineering jointly carried out activities of making paper-cut, sending the character of “Fu” and writing Spring Festival couplets. School of Communication invited the production master to lead students in making cakes. Ziqing College invited college students and foreign students to come into the college community to carry out traditional cultural activities such as color tie dyeing, face painting and experiencing national musical instruments. It was reported that a series of special activities, including paper cutting, Spring Festival couplets production, and labor competition, would be conducted.
