Lecturer: Professor Xiu Gang, Tianjin Foreign Studies University
Summary of the Lecture
For a long time, Chinese higher education has placed a heavy emphasis on foreign language education as a tool, with "reading, speaking, listening, writing, and translating" as the main goals. However, with the rise of new liberal arts education, foreign language education has shifted its focus towards humanistic aspects. In the instrumental education of foreign languages, how to cultivate students' patriotism and improve their skills while also cultivating socialist humanistic values is a question that the new era of foreign language education must answer. This requires cross-disciplinary integration between foreign language education and other subjects, combining skills training with the education of humanistic qualities to cultivate multi-disciplinary foreign language professionals who meet the needs of the times.
