This lecture will first introduce a newly developed “life-oriented approach”, which is an interdisciplinary foundation for research on sustainable mobilities. Here, mobility means any change in people’s life (e.g., residence, neighborhood, health, education, work, family life, recreation, leisure and tourism, finance, and travel behavior). The life-oriented approach argues that decisions at various life domains are not independent of each other. In other words, different mobilities made by people may be interdependent, which are important to sustainable development, because interdependencies between life choices support cross-sectoral urban and transport policy decisions. To the speaker’s knowledge, this is the first theoretical approach in literature to capture various life choices within a unified framework. This lecture will introduce various behavioral modeling efforts for sustainable mobilities (migration, residential mobility, car ownership mobility, job/education mobility, household mobility, health, energy consumption, mobilities related to smart technologies (autonomous vehicles and AI-based smartphone apps), etc.) and discuss future research challenges.

报告人简介
Prof. Junyi Zhang is working in Hiroshima University, Japan. He is the first foreign professor in the field of transportation in Japan. He is good at interdisciplinary research, covering transportation planning and engineering, urban and regional planning, environment and energy policy, tourism policy, health promotion, and human behavior research in both developed and developing countries. His research emphasizes life-oriented and systematic approaches. He has published more than 390 refereed academic papers (SCI/SSCI papers: 70) in top-level SCI/SSCI-indexed journals such as Transportation Research Parts A/B/C/D/E, Journal of Transport Geography, Transportation, Energy, Energy Policy, Energy, Environment and Planning B, Climate Change, and Natural Disasters, Tourism Management, Annals of Tourism Research, Journal of Sustainable Tourism, etc. His research was awarded as Best Paper Awards for eight times and Outstanding Paper Awards for three times by international associations. He has been serving as a reviewer for more than 40 SCI/SSCI-indexed journals and as an international reviewer for some scientific research funds in Europe. Currently, he is one of the five board members of IATBR (International Association on Travel Behaviour Research). He is also on the editorial board in more than 10 internationally well-recognized journals.
