报告简介The past decade has seen a resurgence of nitroxide radicals primarily due to some breakthrough applications in electrochemical catalysis and energy storage. Incorporating nitroxide radicals onto the polymer backbone imparts the materials with excellent electrochemical properties as well as flexibility and processability. The electrochemical properties of such a type of electrode are strongly affected by its chemical structure and its polymer chain structure, as well as the microstructure of electrode composites. We have systematically studied the impact of the different functional substitutions on their electrochemical oxidation behaviour of nitroxide radicals both experimentally and computationally. We also explored the microstructural effect on electrochemical performance of nitroxide polymers as cathode in both lithium-ion battery and sodium-ion battery. This work will highlights the importance of structure-electrochemical property relationship of nitroxide radical organic electrode and provides guidance on rational design of organic radical electrode in flexible battery application.

 Dr Zhongfan Jia is currently an ARC Future Fellow in AIBN at UQ. He received his PhD degree in polymer chemistry and physics from Fudan University, China, in 2007. He then took a postdoc position at the CAMD in UNSW with Prof. Tom Davis. In 2009, he was awarded the UQ Postdoctoral Research Fellowship and moved to UQ, where he has been collaborating with Prof. Michael Monteiro on developing new strategies for complex polymer architecture and polymer nanostructures for biological application. Dr Jia has been awarded of “Science and Technology Progress Award" from Ministry of Education, China, and “Scientific and Technical Award" from Shanghai Municipal Government. He has also been awarded the “Foundation Research Excellent Award’ of University of Queensland. In Jan 2018, Dr Jia will take the “Advanced Queensland Fellowship” (Middle career). He has published over 75 peer-reviewed with H-index of 30. He is on the Advisor Board of European Polymer Journal since 2017.
