CUHK Teachers and Students Visited C. W. Chu College

On the morning of June 14, teachers and students of Wu Yee Sun College of Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) visited our university, thus starting the visit of Suzhou Economic and Cultural Study Camp to Suzhou. They exchanged ideas with the teachers and students of C. W. Chu College in such aspects as the college culture, study, life and experience.


At the welcome ceremony, Professor LuoShijin, Dean of C. W. Chu College, briefly introduced the background when the college was established, 5 years' development history, phased achievements made in running school and the situations of C. W. Chu College's exchange at home and abroad. "Both C. W. Chu College and Wu Yee Sun College have a short history and adopt the collegiate system, so they have many similarities. We expect to have in-depth exchange with CUHK," Dean LuoShijin said.


Ru Xiang, Deputy Director of Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Hong Kong Affairs&Office of International Cooperation & Exchange, pointed out in his speech that Wu Yee Sun College's exchange mode of "cultural experience + project practice" is a kind of innovation but not only attending a lecture or visiting historic sites, and it is "dialogue between elites" and "an in-depth visit" accepted by both parties.

"Suzhou City has an old tier and a new tier enhancing each other's beauty, and it is worth of our studying and understanding. I hope the scale of exchange between the two parties can get larger with this visit as the starting point and more students can visit, know and study Suzhou in the future," said Professor Lin Hun, an academic expert and the leader of the delegation. He hoped Wu Yee Sun College's teachers and students can cherish this one-month visit to Suzhou to feel Suzhou culture and exchange reflection.

After the welcome ceremony, Wu Yee Sun College's teachers and students visited our campus and were deeply attracted by the beautiful campus scenery and strong cultural atmosphere.


Professor Lin Hun, a leading figure in the current geographic information science field and academician of International Academy of Sciences for Europe and Asia (IASEA), was invited to visit C. W. Chu Lecture Hall and deliver a lecture titled "Big Data and Atlas: New Normal of Fine Management" forC. W. Chu College's students, which was an important part of this exchange activity. Professor Lin Hun led the students into a geographic information science world in the context of big data era with vivid language and many examples in his lecture, allowing the students to have a new understanding of the utilization of contemporary geographic information science, especially the advanced technology using geographic information science for preventing disasters and reducing damages and inspecting buildings widened the students' horizon. C. W. Chu College's students actively asked questions in the interaction link. Professor Lin Hun acknowledged their critical thinking skills, highly praised them for their high-quality questions and looked into the future of geographic information technology in such aspects as the Internet of Things, virtual reality technology, academic exchange, traffic management and fine government management.  

Through this exchange activity with CUHK and Professor Lin Hun's lecture, C. W. Chu College's students have known more about the college culture, study and life of CUHK, have had keen interest in cutting-edge geographic information science, remote sensing technology as well as the trend of fine development of technological application and have broadened their vision. In addition, necessity of cross-discipline and arts-sciences pervasion under the collegiate system has been presented in exchange and proved in practice.
